About Us...

SBFN has evolved over the years in ways we’ve met family’s needs. After careful reflection, consideration and by official vote of the board of directors of Spina Bifida Family Network, the plans for dissolving SBFN as a 501c3 charitable organization in the state of Wisconsin are in progress. SBFN will dissolve officially as of July 31, 2017 and families will receive services through Spina Bifida Wisconsin, Ltd. What does this mean for the future of SBFN and more importantly, the future for our families?

We are so fortunate to have Spina Bifida Wisconsin, Ltd (SBWIS) as an active, vibrant, enthusiastic 501c3 charitable organization that will serve all Wisconsin families affected by Spina Bifida. All donations previously collected by SBFN will now be directed to SBWIS to support their state-wide efforts. SBFN encourages donors that have supported us for years to continue their support by donating directly to SBWIS. SBFN families will still benefit from your donation.

SBWIS will work closely with Madison area families interested in organizing social events in this part of our state so our families remain a strong, supportive network to each other. SBWIS recognizes that among the many things our families have in common is a child who was born with Spina Bifida. Our children are gifted in many ways, yet also face medical challenges throughout their lives. For some, Spina Bifida's impact can be minimal. For others, it can be quite complicated. SBFN will continue to be a family network to help families deal with these diversities. We share experiences and learn from each other. It's very beneficial to feel a sense of belonging. When it comes to decisions about our children, we find comfort in knowing we do not face challenges alone. Together we find the support and knowledge we need to live happy, healthy lives.

To connect with Madison area families please join the Spina Bifida Family Network private Facebook group where we ask each other for advice, answer each other’s questions and provide the peer support so vital to raising a child with Spina Bifida.

To connect with Eau Claire area families please join Spina Bifida Superheroes of Wisconsin Facebook group. This page is administered by a parent and aims to connect families that attend clinic in the Rochester, Marshfield or LaCrosse areas.

To connect with Fox Valley area families please join Fox Valley Spina Bifida Support Group and plan to attend their support group meetings in Appleton, area social events and fundraisers that benefit Fox Valley SB Group members.

When SBFN was first started over 10 years ago, we fell in love with a poem called Welcome to Holland by Emily Perl Kingsley.  This poem is a beautiful way of explaining some of the many feelings our families go through.  If you look closely at our SBFN logo, you will see the little girl holding a tulip...a small piece of this poem incorporated into our logo.
